We will go over a few of the typical latency causes and their fixes in this article.
99% of the lag problems that our clients encounter are caused by either server setup or mods.
Configuration Files
- It has been observed that having numerous lines for each setting in the configuration files can lead to lag problems, especially when it comes to the autosave setting but also for other settings. Please make sure that your configuration file contains a single line for each setting.
- It is possible that performance will suffer if you set your autosave period to a low number (shorter period). As always, we advise either leaving it at the default setting of fifteen minutes or raising it and forcing the map to be saved using RCON on restarts and updates.
- Your performance will suffer if your dino count multiplier is increased. The server must work harder since it must successfully manage x times the number of dinosaurs on the map. It's also critical to consider how it will affect the frame rates of the gamers.
- When multipliers are set to ridiculously high values, performance will suffer.
Mods
- It has been reported that a number of mods can affect how well ARK servers operate. In order to determine whether the performance problems continue, we first advise you to temporarily remove any mods that may be present from your server along with any saved data (for testing purposes).
- It is advisable to check if the modules being used on your server are compatible with the most recent version of ARK and that no complaints have been made about bugs or other difficulties with the mod; usually, developers will reveal known issues.
- As not all modifications interact well with one another, using a mod that alters a dinosaur alongside another mod that performs the same task can result in conflicts, instability, and problems. Therefore, make sure the mods you use are compatible with the other mods you intend to use.
